Martyrdom is the only way in which a man can become famous without ability.

Shaw lived in a different era. Today, men and women can become famous for many reasons not involving ability. Perhaps the spread of television, reality shows, and scandals are a major factor. Perhaps we just have too much time and money on our hands.

After all, what is all this but an elevated form of gossip?
